For every student starting their journey in Higher Education; there is a story behind that journey as individual as their DNA.

At YCCC we know that every student has a story, but we also realize that every student has questions, some of which delay oreven stop them from taking that next step….that necessary step for themselves and their family. Instead of seizing the opportunities that come with education, they see perceived obstacles in the form of fear and uncertainty.

Challenge

York County Community College (YCCC) is the youngest of seven community colleges in the Maine Community College System. The school opened its doors in 1995, and due to its relative youth and a significant number of leadership changes, has struggled to find a distinct identity and gain their desired recognition as a destination of choice for college students in their market. Their new President began his tenure in early 2020 and immediately sought a full-service agency that could create a resonating brand for YCCC and deliver affiliated campaigns and solutions that could drive engagement and enrollments. After vetting several agencies, YCCC chose The Pink Collective to redefine their brand, elevate their image and increase enrollments.

Solution

Through our discovery and research process, we identified YCCC’s most compelling value propositions and evaluated competitive dynamics and stakeholder perceptions across the region. Using surveys, interviews, and focus groups, we developed a unifying brand narrative that led to the rebranding campaign, “Find the Fearless You.”The campaign addressed the realities of the student journey during Covid-19, encouraging prospective students to move beyond perceived limitations and pursue higher education with confidence. It also served as an internal rallying message, repositioning YCCC as a bold, effective institution rather than a secondary presence among Maine schools. Supported by Pink Studio-Central’s higher education expertise, the initiative extended beyond messaging to include admissions support, digital media execution, visual design, and creative development — bringing both the campaign and a new school mascot to life.
